If you admire Mandela, the man and the hero, this book will show you how he was able to change any person with his charm, intelligence and wisdom. This is not a history book or a Biography. For me, it is more like a love story... A love story of someone who was tought to see in Nelson Mandela only a black man, terrorist and part of a revolutionary group. But sudenly, this man himself convinced her of another reality and showed her that every single person deserves respect and by doing so, he opened her eyes to a new realiy, a new South Africa and made her fall for him. He became her grandfather and she devoted her entire life, proffesional or personal, to protect him, to give him always 110%.They say behind a great man there is always a woman... Mandela had two: aMrs Graça Machel and Zelda La Grange. Zelda Le GrangeWe watched her on the news and in the press over 19 years.After her book "Good Morning, Mr Mandela" was published in 2014, it was featured in the press due to the many sensitive aspects reflected during Mandela's life in public office, right up to his death. And after she was interviewed on Carte Blanche, a popular South African TV programme, and on CNN, I had to read this book.Zelda tells this fascinating story in her own words with warmth for Mandela, the man that changed South Africa and was honored all over the world as the beacon of the Free World.She questions, why as an Afrikaner, a race group that had implemented Apartheid, she became Mandela's personal assistant. She traces her work with humility and unselfish dedication from just before the election in 1994, when the ANC won the first democratic general election, to the end of Mandela's life.The two main features that we learn from Zelda's book, are the reason why Mandela chose her as his personal assistance and how Mandela demonstrated his own Leadership style.Like some of us in South Africa, Zelda changed her in depth opinion of Black people due to the friendship and character of Mandela. She tells a story we all need to read to understand that peace comes through trust and love for our neighbors, who ever they may be.Over the years, Zelda explains that Mandela believed Leaders must serve the People, and put this philosophy into practice throughout his life.Network Africa-A Complex SystemToday, South Africa misses Mandela's Leadership style as the multiracial groups, or Rainbow nation as it's called, tackles the highly complex integration of these groups, all driven by very different Leadership styles. Zelda has given us a wonderful account of nearly twenty years of her life with Nelson Mandela. Starting as a young 'boeremeisie' in her twenties working in the President's office until she became his personal assistant and companion, and able to converse with heads of state and show business personalities all over the world, all the time paving the way for her beloved Khulu and making sure all his needs were met. It was a strange alliance, this young white Afrikaans girl brought up in apartheid South Africa being told that Nelson Mandela was a terrorist, and Nelson Mandela. Indeed when she first met him she burst into tears. There must have been something that Nelson saw in her and that trust was rewarded by years of faithful service. The book is simply written and from the heart. It made me laugh and it made me cry. I was particularly touched by her account of his last days and the funeral and memorial service. I was infuriated by the treatment of Zelda and Graca Machel, the woman who brought Mandela so much happiness when they married on his 80th birthday.There have been many books written about Nelson Mandela, but I can thoroughly recommend Zelda's account of her life with this wonderful man and all the lessons she learnt from him. Read this book. You will not regret it.
