As with Meredith’s videos she has done an excellent job with this book. Even if you have followed Meredith and watched her videos, this book is of great value. Plenty has been written and documented about Cluster B personality disorder to teach the reader / viewer about the crap they pull. This book is about the journey, a road map, to fix you! If you are a victim of Narcissistic abuse and you want to go from miserably surviving on a string to taking the bull by the horns and enthusiastically thriving this book is a must read. I am a former victim of a covert narcissist mother and countless other narc’s in my life. Discover the person you are supposed to be in a life of peace and happiness. Thank you Meredith!
Meredith Miller is one of the most intuitive people I've come across on the subject of Narcissistic Abuse. She is direct, yet poetic, and her personal stories really reach the heart. The details may be different, but the emotions and awakening are the same. I could easily see where I was along the journey, and it's wonderful support and validation. I would highly recommend this book to anyone healing from Narcissistic Abuse or researching the topic.I'd like to include part of the Prologue as a testament to her dedication and commitment.I believe we all have the right and responsibility to feel empowered, worthy, and free.My story of self-healing after narcissistic abuse began the day I realized that I'd been programmed to accept the Legacy of Abuse passed down my lineage for who knows how many generations. Where did it start? It's hard to knowThe Legacy of Abuse gets passed on trans-generationally without question as something normal and acceptable. When it's modeled by parents, it teaches children that's what love is. Kids then grow up to accept more abuse from others as adults or worse yet they become abuses themselves. Eventually the problem becomes pandemic..Abuse is deeply woven through society from the macro to the micro level. I believe THE problem in our world is that many families, corporations, workplaces, governments, media, entertainment, and even spiritual and religious organizations are functioning according to abusive values and promoting the normalization of this behavior.
I bought and read the book today and it’s wonderful!One of the things I’ve found so frustrating in my own recovery, which has been definitely two steps forward and one step back (and sometimes vice versa), is being so unsure if I’m making real progress. This book has clarified that so well for me.
This book is a useful guide in helping people understand childhood wounds that carry on into adulthood. The work is personal narrative and the author describes the process of what has worked for her, offering a common-sense approach of what one may encounter in freeing one's self from the effects of narcissistic abuse, especially when it shaped one's developmental years and self-concept. Miller's viewpoint contains an underlying premise that the universe tests people's resolve to change, which some readers may find problematic. Change is a natural process. Research indicates that roughly one out of every one hundred people have a brain that makes it difficult for them to experience empathy. One is likely to continue to encounter people that take pleasure from controlling others. It's a fact of living life. Miller's overriding message, however, is this: until one learns to set healthy boundaries with abusive people, and to understand one's own roots as to why he or she engages with abusive people, the dynamic will continue. Whether one chooses to see these encounters as tests from the universe or as part of life, the book is worth reading to see how another human being has understood a difficult dynamic well enough to heal from it, and then to share the process with others. The point of view, however, which at times takes on a shamanic tone, may be a bit much for those that prefer to see life from a more pragmatic and scientific viewpoint.
Thank you, Meredith, for shining your light so clear and strong to assist others through this invisible torment which so many people experience.The steps to healing are laid out clearly in this book, and it's written in a way that's easy to understand. If you've been through this type of abuse, you'll feel like your being guided by someone who gets it and who is on the other side of it. If you haven't, it might help you get a glimpse into the hero's journey of surviving this insanity. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to get out of such a relationship, and even more courage to develop an authentic sense of self afterwards. If you want to thrive and not just survive after Narc abuse, check out this excellent book.
I bought this book because of the numerous good reviews. So I'm now writing to warn others. This book feels like it was shouted into a tape recorder and then transcribed and sent to print with no editing! There are sentences that don't make sense and italicized words and phrases indiscriminately scattered throughout. Sadly, the content seems to be of the same quality -- cliches and opinions, often poorly expressed.I'll add to this review later when I find a good book on this important subject.
