A fully useful, edgy, and lovable book -- 3 adjectives we rarely find in concert, yes?While reading this warmly accessible exploration of how to "hack" language to upgrade our days and ways, I appreciated the wide swath of tone that characterizes Dani's style, ranging from that of an erudite scholar to a precocious, perceptive teenager with an oh, reallly!-attitude, to a wise elder crone.Within its contents, check out at her deft skewering of the insidious word "but" --who gets finally gets his just treatment at her hands -- And then note fine new additions to our lexicon, such as "disasterbate" (getting off on visualizing crap happening) ...These kinds of gems that expand the experiential field of our vocabulary are strewn generously through the text.Anyone who is aware of language theory, Abraham-Hicks-style manifestation doctrine, the Gurdjieff Work or Neuro-Linguistic Programming( NLP), and particularly the work of Milton Erickson which inspired that field will not necessarily find the principles she offers radically ground-breaking.Nor do they need to be.Her treatment of the art and science of "reframing" is uniquely hers and fresh. Also, it is simple, yet effective. Who doesn't want more of that in a world bludgeoning us with wearying words.?So why only 4 stars, not 5 for The New P. Handbook?5 stars, in my "book", go to Emily Dickinson's Collected Poetry, Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Eric Hoffer's The True Believer, Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point, and Life of Pi. Most everyone else will have to wait, even including the charming Ms. Katz.My only critique of the book may be in the actual font choice.The text is so lathered in soft Helvetica Light print, the kind one might find used in bylines for upscale Yoga retreat invitations or spa openings, that my relaxed attention kept wondering literally off the page into space. My eyes were hungering for a little more visual edge to match her verbal punch......and then came her adorable, quirky, and punchy cartoons, one after the other, and all was well with the world.For the price of a weekend of lattes or 10% of your next therapy appointment, buy the book already.

This book has changed my life. I have been using this book to change my language since May 2018 when I bought it. A world of possibilities at work and in my creative projects have opened. I'm working my way through it with every recipe I have the ingredients on hand. I have discovered some amazing recipes that I had not thought I would like, for instance, tuna quesidilla. I have fixed them several times as my game time snack. They are just as good room temp as hot. So far I have not fixed one recipe that I didn't like, though of course, some more than others.Updating here ---- there is a fantastic tuna salad recipe in here. I now use it as my standard. It is Curried Tuna Salad. I always used a lot of mayo in mine but this is so much healthier with only 3 Tblsps for 2 cans and the flavors are outstanding. I no longer even like mayo drenched tuna salad. I believe the recipe calls for dried currants. I've also used raisins, dried cherries and dried cranberries. Whatever I have and they are all delicious.

Other than the basic tuna salad, I am not very adept at using fish - even canned tuna in my meals. Fish and I have never been on the best of terms. What a surprise that there are so many recipes available. Easy-to-use and tasty looking and sounding.

I wanted more ideas for different ways to create tuna dishes. This book offers me that.

I don't think I have ever read a sadder story and I have read some pretty awful child abuse memoirs. I don't have words to properly describe how this story effected me. It resonated in my soul.The title of my review is my favorite Bible verse, but I had never previously heard of anyone who truly experienced its' meaning, until I read Ms. Van Stone's book. Abandoned by both her parents at an early age, Ms. Van Stone was beaten every single night without fail at the orphanage her and her sister were sent to and later in uncaring foster homes as well as told she was ugly, worthless, and unloved. With no one to turn to she learned to rely only on herself and survive until a chance event introduced her to her heavenly father who would never abandon her even on her darkest days. This is a truly beautiful story of triumph against all odds.

When everyone around you shows and speaks hatred and instills verbal and physical abuse, what is one to do as a little child who cannot defend herself? Dorie shows that although rejected all her childhood, she could overcome and even find success in and through her talents. But, what about the love she craved? She found it in the only one she knew would never reject her--Jesus. She shows the world through her story that only her trust in her faith helped dig her out of rejection & pain, and into a life full of the love she had needed desperately as a little girl. What completeness is gotten in her life as a young woman, a wife, a mother, and a missionary because of her trust in the one who saved her out of humanity's short-comings. What a triumph!

I heard Dorie VanStone speak and show her slides of her work in the Baliem Valley (New Guinea) in the 1950's. Her book was very interesting and told about the work among the Stone Age people as I had learned from her in then 50's. What I did not know and it was very well made known in the book was that she had accepted Christ as a child and had memorized God's word and the Lord met her needs all the years that she was in foster care, orphan homes and lived with families were she was a maid., etc. What could have been a defeated, discouraging, and depressing life, was instead a life dependent on the comfort that Christ promised in His Word. She had a forgiving heart and a love for others, even those who had neglected and abused her as a child. Because of what she had experienced in her early years, she by the power of the Holy Spirit, had a remarkable understanding of others. Truly, she showed that God's love and grace is sufficient for all. After reading "Dorie," I was blessed again by her remarkable life. Joufully His, Betty Diamond

I could not put the book down once I started reading. It was filled with so much detail in so little time that I couldn't help but to continue on reading. This is a great book that exemplifies God's grace and bigger plan for all who believe in his resurrection for our salvation. Anyone questioning how to continue to have faith through trials, this book is a wonderful example of how to praise and honor God always !

As I read Dorie's story, I marveled at the way she allowed God to give her hope and keep her from bitterness. She is a great example of the faithfulness of God .

My heart broke for this young woman but to see how God used her story to reach so many is a thing of beauty.

This is a story about sin and its impact on a child's life. What happens to that life when a child turn adult holds tight to Jesus no matter the case? Paul says I have learned to be content in every situation. Dorie follows his example. A wonderful book for the Christian that thinks comfort and wealth is the end blessing. We learn here that it is not. We learn here that the Lord teaches through all the troubles of life on earth. Life is messy but our Lord is always there for us.

This is truly an amazing book for everyone to read. It is truly heartfelt. A young girls courage to forgive despite all the emotional, physical and psychological trauma that she endured. It takes a God who is truly bigger and greater than our circumstances to bring out the best in regardless of human suffering. She is one in a million.
