I respect the intentions but more effort should have been put into this. At the price that it was sold at, I suppose it was worth it. However if more content was put into this book along with pertinent information about the figures included. A stepper price would be worthy. My 4yo daughter was done coloring this book (in detail)within a hour and gained no further knowledge about these important figures then what the general public already tells them.

I read this book aloud to my third grade class. They fell in love with it! They had to take the AR test once we finished, they all made a 100! I would highly recommend this book to any third grade teacher or student!

If you are looking for a book for a child going through a divorce- this is it.Main characters are a boy and a girl going through tough times with their parents' divorces. Would open up a lot of discussions about feelings.

My 10 year old loves this book and he doesn’t like reading.

You know your kid likes a book if she reads it in less than two nights!! Sitting up in her bed because the book is so good that she doesn't want to fall asleep! And what a plus to hear the giggles!!!

On a road trip the girls read this book cover to cover.and were happy reading. That alone made Dad happy and the price was the best. The kids like it because they can by their own books with their money and not go broke doing so.

I loved the great story of the characters, and I think that it is a perfect book for 5th grade and up. I had no dislikes in this amazing fiction book.

Original story idea that my 4th grade students can relate to; trying out for the news team. The characters are hilarious, creative and passionate about the dares. I felt for the characters who experienced similar family issues that many students face today. I Double Dog Dare you to purchase this book! You'll enjoy it!

I love this book and I think it is amazing for kids who are starting 3rd grade because in my school I have a sunshine state book list and this book is on it I would recommend for everybody to read it.

Julie Des Jardins teaches American history at Baruch College, CUNY, and writes on gender and American women. Previously, she was a lecturer at Harvard University, where she was awarded the Alan Heimert Prize for Seminar Teaching. This is a remarkable book that should receive more attention than it will probably get. It is a very valuable contribution to the growing literature on the history of science as well as women's history. It should be good reading for historians and women professionals in a variety of fields as well as to men in science as they interact with female associates., The theme of 'genderization of science' inevitably runs through the book but this is NOT a feminist sob story. It is a realistic analysis of the different roles women have played as scientific research in various fields advanced. It was written by an historian with a real talent for in-depth research, analysis, organization and a clear, interesting writing style. I found the book fascinating and very readable.The author defines three eras during the period from 1880 to the end of the 20th century and chose several women in each era to illustrate her points. While these eras were not distinct and blended with each other, and while there were a few exceptional female scientists along the way who did not fit the mold she describes, the general descriptions of these eras seem well defined to this reviewer (who was a participant in the middle era, from 1941-1962 and beyond.)What is most fascinating is the way in which she traces woman's roles in domestic life and child bearing and rearing from the time when it was a limiting factor in her participation in scientific research to the point where those very biological and cultural roles contribute valuable new insights, possibly even new paradigms, to many scientific fields. Many of her new insights are challenging and important. I wish she would return, analyze and report on the situation 25 years from now. Times are changing!

Used this book for an interdisciplinary course as an undergraduate, womens involvement in science. Great book for the class. The author does a great job at relaying her message of the importance of women in the field. I am currently still using the book as a reference for my graduate work.

There are so few books on women in science and this one is a winner. I use it to teach my leadership classes--it really gets into the nitty gritty of women who changed the world...

This was a fascinating read. I didn't realize that women scientists worked so long for so little, a d that it took so long to get any recognition. It seemed criminal that men took advantage of their research and it was so acceptable by the science community for this to happen.

Covers quite a bit of ground. I found it a bit disjointed at times, bouncing around. Threw a lot of names at you, which was a little tough to keep track of, especially since many of these names (unfortunately) are not familiar to us. There were a few spots where it seemed to get a bit defensive (feministic) - but can you blame the author? I did enjoy learning about these wonderful women and their accomplishments, and even I was ashamed (as a male) how they had been treated. I might also have enjoyed a bit more time and details on each subject; but I'm sure it was hard enough to unearth the facts. it certainly is an eye opener though, and a good overview of these women of science.

I found this book to be very interesting. I did not fully understand all the contributions these women had made to science, their personal lives and the advancement of their bosses/spouses. This was both eye opening and an enjoyable read.

Every day at the bookstore where I work I have to stare at the cover with a photograph of Francis Crick. I do not enjoy it. If you do not know who Francis Crick is then you should read The Madame Curie Complex. Francis Crick is only a small part (ultimately in the history of science a big part) of one of the many stories of men getting credit for women's work and great women scientists who were undermined or not recognized for their scientific successes. Extremely well written and entertaining The Madame Curie Complex will open your eyes (the book opened mine) to a slew of women in science that I had no idea about.

I purchased this to have a quick reference for birds outside my window at the feeder. It's a great quick reference card and nothing more. The pictures are decent drawings not detailed and the information on the card is interesting although it offers only a few extra details about a few of the birds. The measurements are helpful. Good to have at your window for quick reference.

This is not a great book; it did nothing to change the way I think and I don't remember seeing anything that I had not seen (or done) before. However, it is a pretty nice introduction to the subtle skill of debugging.Debugging is a difficult thing to teach. In fact, it seems to me to be more difficult to teach than to learn: I have never seen an attempt to teach debugging succeed on any greater level than a list of tips and rules of thumb. On the other hand, the most successful debuggers, and the most effective debugging efforts, have completely transcended any tips or rules. The person doing the debugging coupled a deep (if not specific) understanding of the system or at least technology in question to arrive on the trail of the problem almost mystically.If I Only Changed the Software... does not try to present a grand theory of debugging, and it does have a list of tips, but it does more to teach the feeling of debugging than any other work I've read. Perhaps the fictional, narrative-based scheme can teach at least what the process of debugging looks like.One nice (although some may feel otherwise) feature of the book is the use of, well, less than perfect code. Certainly, when I was less experienced than I am now I would have found the code a ghastly horror and a crime against nature. In fact, I would probably have been right. On the other hand, having seen more of other people's code, I now see the examples in the book as pretty typical.The big benefit of the code is that it demonstrates a bug may not be the bug. For example, the function periodic_timer in one chapter appears to be called every ten milliseconds. A bug with the code I immediately spotted involves a comment about "1000 msec"; that code is actually executed every 100 milliseconds. However, the bug I spotted is completely unrelated to the bug described in the chapter. Executing the code more frequently than expected should not have any particular ill effects, certainly not involving the actual problem. That is a vital lesson for anyone doing debugging.I would recommend If I Only Changed the Software... to just about any programmer, certainly one inexperienced in the task that has occupied much of my career. Although at least some exposure to low-level programming would be good, embedded programming experience is not a requirement. The book is focused on embedded debugging, but the lessons are applicable to any programming task.

This is the first book I read that reflects the real life of an embedded software engineering. Instead giving the abstract examples like other books, all examples and exercises in this book come from the real life experience. It covers many basic debugging skills and embedded system concepts throughout each vivid story. As an engineer that has been working on embedded system for about 9 years, I can say this book reflects key parts on software programming and debugging on embedded systems. It is challenging and high-pressure, but it is also very creative and fun.It is a great book for college student to know the real life about embedded software engineering. It is also an excellent book to learn some basic technique about embedded system programming and debugging. I ordered several copies for my team. They all really enjoy reading it!

Excellent book! Real-to-life, creative thinking, lessons build upon themselves as you go through the book. It mirrored some of the things I've been through during 20+ years of HW/SW debug and Customer Support roles. I HIGHLY recommend this book and feel itshould be required reading either during school or as new employees in relevant positions.

Embedded development isn't like other kinds of programming. Tight memory restrictions (a few dozen to a few hundred bytes for stack and variables) are the least of it. Really, it's the intimate integration of hardware and software that makes the difference. For example, I once made software changes that got the system 3 dB closer to the FCC RF emissions standard - that kind of thing. Add in real-time constraints, a user interface possibly consisting of one LED and a pushbutton, and little to no OS, and it becomes a whole new world.Lots of your old debugging techniques just won't work in that world. Some will, but you'll need lots of new ones, too, and not just the ICE or logic analyzer. That's where this book comes in. Nine chapters present different debugging scenarios, fictional but based on real-world experience. In each Simone walks the reader through the problem, the debug sessions, some source code, and an eventual solution. As always, your brain is your best debugging tool, and Simone offers plenty of ways to use it many programmers won't have seen before.For all the good in this book, I'm really not nuts about it. Each debug session has been scripted into a brief play between the four characters introduced. This mechanism allows Simone to walk through the debug reasoning in a realistic way and also lets her expose some of the human issues in system development. Still, it's a bit too "user friendly" for me - a notoriously unfriendly user. All that he-said/she-said interaction comes across as fluff; I prefer a higher density of technical content, others will prefer this book's chatty, conversational style.That's just me, though. Battle-scarred embedded developers will anticipate many of the solutions here and see problems that don't get addressed, but this book wasn't meant for them. Instead, I think the intended reader is a seasoned C programmer who suddenly finds herself on the other side of the embedded looking glass. In addition to the real technical suggestions offered, this book might help that poor soul realize that she's not the only one dealing with such bizarre issues. For someone like me, less chat and more hard content would have been an improvement.-- wiredweird
