I read this book in almost one sitting, I just couldn't put it down.As I said in my review of The devil wears scrubs, the use of medical jargon was accurate and used in proper context, making this book intense but still a fun read.I giggled out loud, cringed and groaned in frustration, and went 'awe' as the story ended
Great story, held my interest, so much I could hardly wait to get a chance during the day to get back to the story. Doctors and residents, nurses, and their relationships in this story draw you into their lives and you feel you are standing right next to them as the story unfolds. This story has a green eyed Dr and another Dr who fall in love, both have baggage from former relationships, so they work side by side throughout the book. The intern who passes out in the operating room whenever she has to assist with a c-section. Love, surgery, delivering babies, and a busy ob/gyn section of a hospital - if you are interested in those things you will love the book.
As a physician I found this book to be a hilarious take on the life of residents and medical students during training. The author has a sharp, witty and totally engaging grasp of hospital life at it's least attractive and this is what makes it so much fun to read. While not touchy feely, the humanity of the characters shines through. It is a great read for anyone who likes medical humor that does not take itself too seriously. I also highly recommend the author's "Suicide Med". It is a deeper exploration of medical education and training and will not disappoint.
Enjoyed this novel and the characters in it. No one can be charming after endless hours of work on a hospital ward, much less Dr McCoy. Certainly, she gets cranky and sounds bitter from time to time - but don't we all in any profession? No one is perfect. We tend to forget that maternity wards not only have joyous outcomes and this is shown well in the crisis experienced by patients and medical staff.I will be reading read more of MCFadden's work very shortly!
Another brilliant Freida McFadden novel - I just loved it! As a mom of two I adored the main characters' no-nonsense take on her profession. It's a fast read that really gives you a sense of the waves and waves of babies born at a hospital - it's an overwhelming job, but the women in this story are tough, stick together, know each other well enough to be a team that does what's best for the patients. I laughed, I learned some eye-opening things about life as an OB/GYN resident, I loved the warm-hearted ending.
I loved this book, and I'm not easy to please! The medical details are fascinating, the characters well-developed and the storylines woven together in a satisfying fashion. The patient cases are well balanced with the emotional story of OB/GYN resident Dr. McCoy. The other doctors and residents really come to life, too, including the resident who is her best friend (and pregnant) and the male resident she's unwillingly falling in love with. I truly wished this book would go on and on!
I liked this book. It's always interesting to read from another's point of view. The protagonist was crabby but she was also sleep-deprived and over-worked. She made a few mistakes in her interactions with others but I thought it made her seem more "real". I like first person narratives and the authors did a good job with this. There were realistic consequences for actions. I just wish it was longer.
I definitely give 5 stars for this book. I am a retired neonatal nurse so all th medical language was 100% it was like walking down Memory lane. I truly enjoyed it and was sorry it had to end. Good Job
