I love these time slip historical novels Leslie Gould has been writing. This is the 2nd in the Sisters of Lancaster County trilogy. Marie, the middle sister, thinks of herself as the "good" sister, always living by the strict rules of the Amish ways that she grew up with. She considers herself the loving daughter. Her days are full helping her mother in the home and dreaming of becoming the wife of an Amish farmer and a mother.But life becomes complicated for Marie when she suddenly has two men to choose from. First, there is Gordon, the farm hand on her family's farm. He shares her love of singing. But he doesn't have a farm and he is Mennonite, not Amish. Then there is Jacob, the bishop's son. He will be taking over his family farm. But he is in Florida and a little bit on the wild side. Her mother and the bishop decide that Marie's upright Amish ways would be a good influence on Jacob. So she is sent to Florida with her Aunt Suz.Florida is a completely new environment for Marie. Shorts and t-shirts, bathing suits, church in a building. Amish, Mennonite, and Englisch mingling together. Time with Eli. What happens when Gordon shows up in Florida to work in a homeless shelter? Marie begins to see with new eyes. She sees the true hearts of both Gordon and Elijah and she sees her true heart with those new eyes.Aunt Suz is the keeper of the family history. While in Florida she begins telling Marie the story of their ancestor Annie Bachmann. Annie had lived through extremely difficult times during the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg. Marie learns how Annie nursed wounded soldiers; took care of her ailing sister-in-law; and chose between her Amish suitor, and a Yankee soldier. By hearing Annie's story and how she came to make difficult decisions helped Marie make a very important decision herself.I am looking forward to the next book in "The Sisters of Lancaster County" series.

I enjoyed both the first and second book of The Sisters of Lancaster County Series! I am looking forward to Book# 3's release! I love the way that Book 1 weaved in Revolutionary War history and Book 2 weaved in Civil War history into the story lines and how it affected their Amish ancestors.

Leslie Gould researches her topic. She adds historic and geographic facts that enhance the believability of her characters and plots. As one reads, they think about finding an atlas or googling the setting of the plot. I am eager to see what Leslie Gould writes next.

Enjoyed reading but was a very slow start. Felt story was dragging.
